Chief Executive, Dr Ann McGarry

Dr Ann McGarry has been Chief Executive of the RPII since 2002.
She has served on a range of national and international committees on radiation protection and nuclear safety. Currently she serves on
- Committee 4 of the International Committee on Radiological Protection, which oversees the application of the Commission’s recommendations
- The Nuclear Energy Agency’s Committee on Radiation Protection and Public Health
- The European High Level Group on Nuclear Safety and Waste Management (ENSREG), where she holds the position of Vice-Chairman
Her academic qualifications include
- A PhD in Experimental Physics from University College, Dublin

Director of Corporate Development, Dr Barbara Rafferty

Dr Barbara Rafferty is the Director of Corporate Development in the RPII. Her role includes responsibility for the RPII’s support services, which include

- Human resources
- Library services
- Communications.
Dr Rafferty is a Director on the Civil Defence Board.
Her academic qualifications include
- A PhD in Marine Ecotoxicology from Trinity College, Dublin

Director of Regulation and Information Management, Dr Tom Ryan

Dr Tom Ryan is the Director of Regulation and Information Management. His role includes responsibility for
- Regulating the use of ionising radiation for the medical, veterinary and industrial sectors
- Regulating the exposure of aircrew to cosmic radiation
- Regulating work activities involving naturally occurring radioactive materials
- Radioactive waste
- Security of sources
- IT
- Building Maintenance
- Records Management
He is a member of the EURATOM Article 37 Expert Group and the European Commission’s Standing Working Group on the Transport of Radioactive Material.
His academic qualifications include
- A PhD in Physics from University College, Dublin

Director of Radon and Measurement Services, Mr David Pollard

David Pollard is the Director of Radon and Measurement Services. He is responsible for the RPII’s
- Measurement services in the areas of personal dosimetry, instrument calibration, radio-chemistry and radon
- Radon advice.
He is a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency's International Nuclear Event Scale Technical Working Group. He is also a member of the Planning, Development and Recruitment Committee of the Civil Defence Board.
His academic qualifications include

Director of Environmental Surveillance and Assessment, Dr Ciara McMahon
Dr Ciara McMahon is Director of Environmental Surveillance and Assessment. Her role includes responsibilities for RPII's
- Environmental monitoring programme
- Product certification and radio-analytical services
- Impact assessment on reprocessing and nuclear power plants
- Advice to Government on nuclear safety
- Technical support for Ireland's participation in international nuclear conventions
- Emergency Preparedness
Dr McMahon is co-chair of the OECD-Nuclear Energy Agency's Working party on Nuclear Emergency Matters and the deputy representative for western Europe on the National Competent Authorities Coordinating Group for the international nuclear emergency conventions.
Her Academic qualifications include
