The Board

The role of the RPII Board is to provide strategic leadership, direction, support and guidance for the RPII and promote commitment to its core vision, objectives and values.

Advisory Committees

The work of the RPII is further supplemented by advisory committees which provide advice to the Board and Chief Executive. These are:

The Communications Advisory Committee

The communications advisory committee advises the Board and RPII on matters of public communications.  This includes advice on the strategic direction of RPII communications activities,on the annual communications programme and on any other matter that my be referred to it by the Board.

Membership:

Mr James Fitzmaurice (Chair), Managing Director of the Bradan Group

Ms Fionnuala Barker, Principal Physicist in St Luke’s Hospital Dublin

The Ionising Radiation Advisory Committee

The Board has established a new high-level scientific advisory committee with a specific public health focus, the Ionising Radiation Advisory Committee (IRAC), to advise it on all matters concerning ionising radiation. The membership of IRAC is listed below and includes expertise across a broad range of fields relevant to the RPII. The first meeting of IRAC was held on Tuesday 11th May 2010.

The decision to establish the IRAC was arrived at following a review of the existing advisory committee structure comprising the Medical Radiation Advisory Committee (MRAC) and the Environmental Radiation Advisory Committee (ERAC). The review found that the existing structure had served the RPII very well over many years but that it needed to be reformed to reflect current needs and priorities and to take account of changes in the external environment.
