Have your say on nuclear safety legislation in the EU
January 16, 2012
Following the nuclear accident at Fukushima, the European Commission is requesting the views of the public on the need for additional nuclear safety legislation.
The European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation to gather the views of the public and other interested parties. This consultation is being done as part of a review on the existing legal and regulatory framework for the safety of nuclear installations in the EU. The review was initiated by the European Council following the nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in Japan.
The EC plans to include feedback received in this consultation in its assessment of areas where the existing Euratom nuclear safety legislative framework could be further reinforced.
The public consultation runs until 29 February 2012 and is available on the Europa website.
