Dosimetry Measurement

The RPII provides a dosimetry service for assessing doses from occupational exposure to ionising radiation.

The dosimetry service is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board to ISO 17025.

What is dosimetry?

Dosimetry is the determination of the dose received by an individual from exposure to ionising radiation.

Who uses dosimetry?

Dosimetry is used by people working with ionising radiation to determine the radiation dose they have received.

How are personal radiation doses measured?

A small device called a dosemeter monitors the cumulative build-up of radiation in the human body, or on parts of the human body.

Are all dosemeters more or less the same?

No. Various types of dosemeters have specialised capabilities designed for different purposes.

Dosemeters can be used to detect and monitor exposure to radiation from X-rays, gamma rays, beta radiation and neutrons.

What type of dosemeter would I need?

If you need advice on the type of dosemeter suitable for your needs please contact us.
